Emergency Services Agencies are continuing to experience problems with 9-1-1 services.

Long distance and cellular service has also been affected.

Updated Emergency Numbers:

• When using a regular landline phone to contact Police - call 949-6300 and press 9 to reach an operator, until further notice.

• When using a regular landline phone to contact Ambulance please call 759-3434 ext 0 and ask for ambulance, until further notice

• When using a regular landline phone to contact Fire Dept. please call 949-3335, until further notice.

Cellular 9-1-1 service on Bell Mobility and Rogers cell networks has been diverted to OPP dispatch in North Bay and is operational for emergency calls where a regular land line phone is not available. OPP dispatchers will provide the emergency information to the necessary local agency for emergency response

The City Police is presently experiencing problems with the 9-1-1 service. Long distance and cellular service has also been affected.

The Police Service is requesting the assistance of the Local Media in informing the public the following:

If the public requires Police please call 949-6300 ext 9 until further notice.

If the public requires Ambulance please call 759-3434 ext 0 and ask for ambulance until further notice

If the public requires the Fire Dept. please call 949-3335 until further notice.

Police Need Public's Assistance

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating any witnesses to a four vehicle collision that occurred yesterday evening at approx. 6:15 PM on Wellington St.E. and Simpson St. The incident resulted in 6 persons being taken to hospital by ambulances, with non-life threatening injuries. Vehicles involved were a silver 2 door Ford car, a white GMC van, a red 2 door Chev car and a red Ford car. One of the vehicles also struck the traffic light pole. Anyone that may have witnessed this incident is asked to contact Cst Hohmeyer, of the Sault Ste Marie Police Traffic Services at 949-6300 ext 383.

44 Yr Old Charged With Mischief & Assault

At approx. 5:50 AM yesterday morning City Police attended at a downtown location and arrested a 44 year old male for Mischief, Assault. It is alleged that the accused attended at his ex- girlfriend’s residence and broke several windows and assaulted her. The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the glass breaking. The accused was further charged with Criminal Harassment – this was as a result of the victim advising police that she received approx 60 phone calls, from the accused, the previous night. All of the phone calls consisted of the accused yelling and swearing at the victim. The accused will be appearing in Bail Court today at 10:00 AM on charges of Assault, Mischief and Criminal Harassment.

24 Yr Old Charged With Mischief & Assault

Last evening at approx. 9:20 PM Police arrested a 24 year old male and charged him with two counts of Mischief and one count of Assault. These charges are the result of allegations that the accused grabbed the victim by the face and punched her in the face. The mischief charges were laid as a result of the accused kicking the victim’s car door, causing a dent and by damaging a CD that belonging to the victim. The victim did not require medical attention due to the assault. The victim and accused are known to each other. The accused will be appearing in Bail Court today at 10:00 AM.

Assault & Threatening

Yesterday morning City Police arrested at 47-year-old male and charged him with Assault and Threatening. The charges stem from allegations that the accused grabbed a female by the hair and slapped her in the face. The accused then threatened to kill the victim. The victim and accused are known tone another. The accused will be appearing in Bail Court today at 10:00 AM.

Attempted Break & Enter

An attempted break and enter occurred yesterday afternoon in the 400 block of Moss Rd. It is believed that the alarm at the residence may have frightened the culprits before they could enter.

Thefts From Vehicles

City Police are also investigating two reports of thefts from vehicles. Thieves broke into vehicles in the 100 block of Cambridge Pl. and Cathcart St. Stereo equipment was stolen from both locations.
