Update To Yesterday's Sexual Assault Charge

Yesterday’s release:

49-year old Louis Caruso of 11 White Oak Drive was arrested on the on the 6th of August by officers from Investigation Services and charged with one count of sexual assault. It is alleged that in the early morning hours of the 6th of August the accused sexually assaulted a 25-year old female who is known to the accused. The incident occurred in a centrally located address. The accused will appear in bail court this morning.

Update:

Yesterday morning officers from the Joint Forces Drug Unit, which consists of the Ontario Provincial Police Drug Enforcement Section, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, the R.C.M.P. and the O.P.P North East Region arrested Louis Caruso and charged him with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance. During the course of the investigation into the sexual assault, officers from both Investigation Services and the Joint Forces Drug Unit executed a search warrant at the accused’s residence and 32.1 grams of cocaine were seized. The estimated street value of the narcotics is $3,200. Mr. Caruso will appear in bail court this morning.

Suspicious Characters Found With Drugs

41-year old Garnet Hanifan of 255 Eastern Avenue will also appear in bail court this morning. Last evening around 11 pm officers from Patrol Services attended in a parking lot on Wellington Street West regarding a vehicle with persons inside acting suspicious. When officers approached the vehicle and spoke to the two occupants they noted what appeared to be narcotics in the vehicle. A search was conducted of the vehicle and officers located 30 grams of cocaine on the male passenger along with a substantial amount of currency. The estimated street value of the narcotics is $3,000. Other items related to drug activity were also located inside the vehicle. Mr. Hanifan has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and one count of breach of a release order for not abstaining from non-prescription drugs. The driver of the vehicle, 37-year old Jennifer Irvine of 282 Cathcart Street has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance. She will appear in court on September 11th.

Assault Causing Bodily Harm

A 53-year old male was arrested last evening and charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and four counts of breach of probation. Last evening it is alleged that the accused assaulted his common law wife by punching her several times in the face. The incident occurred in the west end of the City. The victim required medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with a number of conditions, which the accused failed to abide by. The male will appear in bail court this morning.

Death Threats

A 38-year old male was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm. It is alleged that the accused threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend if she called the police. The two were involved in a verbal argument at the time. The incident occurred in a central area of town. The accused will appear in bail court this morning.

Fraud

44-year old Andrew Boston of 28 Partridge Court will appear in court on September 18th. Yesterday afternoon officers from the Fraud Unit arrested the accused and charged him with one count of fraud and one count of false pretences. It is alleged that between January and August of this year the accused defrauded a male customer of a boat by receiving a payment for a boat. It is alleged that the accused never delivered the boat that was ordered, nor refunded the money to the victim. The amount of money involved was $5860.

35 Yr Old Charged With Assault

35-year old George Donald Wilson of 21 Sunset Court was arrested last evening and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 7th of August the accused approached a male victim and struck the victim in the face. The victim was in his vehicle at a local drive through window when the accused approached the victim and stuck him through an open vehicle window. It is further alleged that the accused then opened the victim’s door and struck the victim several more times in the face. The victim received medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The accused will appear in court on September 11th.

Break & Enters

City Police are investigating a number of break and enters that were reported in the last 24 hour period:

1) Yesterday morning The Tire People located on Drive In Road reported a break and enter that had occurred over the weekend. Sometime between the 5th of August at 2 pm and the 6th of August at 1 pm a generator was taken.

2) Sometime between 12 noon on the 4th of August and 8 am on the 8th of August the Soo Greyhounds Hockey office was broke into on Queen Street East. Thieves made off with 2 laptop computers.

3) Sometime over the long weekend thieves broke into Red Star Electric in Industrial Court B and stole approximately $1,000 worth of copper wire.

4) Yesterday afternoon City Police attended on Ontario Avenue for a break and enter. It is unknown if anything was taken at this time.

5) Yesterday between 8 am and 5:30 pm a home on Old Goulais Bay Road was entered. Items taken in an X-box, DVD’s and some money.
