19-Yr Old Arrested For Easter Basket Theft

19-year old John Bennett of 10-864 Queen Street East was arrested just before 3 am this morning and charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation. Patrol Officers observed the accused walking in the downtown area with two Easter Baskets and became suspicious. Further investigation revealed that they had been removed from a car parked on Church Street. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with terms to keep the peace and be good. The accused will appear in bail court this morning.

Impaired Driving

Last evening around 8:30 pm City Police observed a car turn from Queen Street West onto John Street and proceed into the wrong lane before ending up in the correct lane. The vehicle then narrowly missed a parked truck on the road, and went through a stop sign at Cathcart Street and John Street. As officers pulled the driver over, the vehicle accused allegedly drove over curb and onto the boulevard before coming to a stop. When officers approached the driver they noted a strong odour of alcohol. 47-year old David Sim of main floor-342 John Street was charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. The accused will appear in court on May 1st.

Assault With A Weapon

19-year old Darrick Pelchat of 331 Sydenham Road was arrested yesterday morning and charged with one count of assault with a weapon and three counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that the accused assaulted a male victim yesterday morning by striking the victim in the head with a phone. The victim required medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with a number of terms including to refrain from consuming alcohol and to keep the peace and be good. The accused will appear in court on May 1st.

Mischeif Charge

Yesterday afternoon City Police arrested a 35-year old male in relation to a domestic related incident. It is alleged that on March 22nd the accused damaged his estranged wife’s vehicle by grabbing onto the door and forcing it back resulting in a bend to the door. The incident occurred in the City’s west end. The accused has been charged with one count of mischief under $5,000 and will appear in court on May 1st.

Youth Arrested For Death Threat

A 14-year old youth was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm. It is alleged that the youth threatened to kill another youth. The accused will appear in court on May 2nd.

Vandalism

Yesterday morning City Police received a report of mischief to William Merrifield School located at 331 Patrick Street. Overnight between the 27th and 28th the school was spray-painted.
