DRIVING CONDITIONS IN THE CITY HAVE WORSENED DUE TO THE CURRENT WEATHER CONDITIONS AND WITH THE RECENT WEATHER FORECAST AND THE CALL FOR HEAVY SNOW, THE PUBLIC IS BEING ASKED TO DRIVE WITH EXTRA CARE AND CAUTION.

POLICE HAVE INVESTIGATED 6 ACCIDENTS OVER THE LUNCH PERIOD AND DRIVING IS ESPECIALLY BAD ON THE HILLS THROUGHOUT THE CITY

PLEASE SLOW DOWN AND DRIVE WITH CARE.

Reminder-No Parking After Midnight

With the weather forecast predicting snow later today and tonight, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists that there is no parking on the city streets between midnight and 6 am. If you are parked on the street you will be ticketed and if your vehicle is interfering with any snow removal in the area, your vehicle may be towed.

3 Persons To Appear In Bail Court This Morning

1) A 23-year old male was charged with assault last evening. It is alleged that the accused and his common-law girlfriend got into a verbal argument last night. The argument escalated to the point where it is alleged the accused grabbed the victim by the neck and slamming her head into a wall, leaving a hole in the drywall. The victim did not require medical treatment. The male has been charged with one count of assault.

2) 31-year old Rainer Schmitz of Brampton, Ontario was arrested and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that yesterday afternoon the accused stole a t-shirt from Bluenotes in the Station Mall. The accused was apprehended by store security and turned over to City Police.

3) A 13-year old youth was arrested last evening and charged with one count of assault, one count of mischief and one count of breach of a release order. It is alleged that the accused assaulted a family member by scratching the victim after the victim took a laptop computer from the victim. The accused allegedly became frustrated and punched a hole in the wall. City Police were called. At the time of the offence the accused was on conditions not to harass, molest or annoy the victim.

E-Mails Lead To Charges

26-year old David Legault of 105-156 Chartwell Drive was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of personation with intent. It is alleged that on the 13th of November the accused created an e-mail account in the name of a person known to him. Once the account was created it is alleged that the accused sent out an e-mail in the name of the victim, to the victim’s workplace supervisor, which included an offensive message with a sexual overtone. The accused will appear in court on January 9th, 2006.

Theft at Wal-Mart

18-year old Lee-Ann Andre of 16 Mission Road, Wawa was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused took a pair of shoes from the Wal-Mart Store, put them on her feet and walked out of the store without paying for them. The accused was apprehended by store security and turned over to City Police. The accused will appear in court on January 9th.

There were no break and enters reported in the last 24 hours.
