As measles cases continue to climb in Ontario, public health officials are battling more than just the disease. They are fighting a tide of misinformation online.
As the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) reported earlier this year, alarming new data that shows more than one-third of people are getting health information from the Internet because they can’t access a primary care provider.
Forty-two per cent of Canadians have actually tried medical advice they found online, the survey showed, while nearly one quarter — 23 per cent — have experienced a negative reaction after following that advice.
