Garden River First Nation leadership has decided to remove restricted access into the community next month.
The loosening of restrictions, which includes the removal of COVID-19 checkpoints along Highway 17B, goes into effect June 16.
"This means there will be no checkpoint personnel screening members [and] non-members for COVID-19 and purpose of travel upon entry," reads a release posted to the Garden River First Nation social media page Friday. "The decision to remove restricted access was based on the ease of pandemic restrictions set by new provincial regulations, and discussions with our neighbouring leadership along the north shore."
Chief and council say restricted access measures could be reinstated, or the date for the removal of restricted access pushed back if there's an increase in COVID-19 cases.
