After months of remaining COVID-19 free, Elliot Lake's St. Joseph's General Hospital (ELSJGH) reported its first COVID-19 related death today.
"It is with great sadness that St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake (SJGHEL), in collaboration with Algoma Public Health, is reporting Elliot Lake’s first COVID-19 related death which is the third COVID-19 related death in the region," said a statement issued by hospital CEO Jeremy Stevenson.
"A patient previously treated at St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake (SJGHEL) with confirmed COVID-19 has passed away. On behalf of our entire organization, we wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time," the statement read.
"SJGHEL staff continues to offer our communities compassionate and quality health care throughout these extraordinary times. We are committed to working with our health care partners, including Algoma Public Health, as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic to protect the safety of our workers, patients, residents, clients and communities.
"SJGHEL encourages everyone to remain vigilant in following public health guidelines such as hand hygiene, masking, and physical distancing."
