I think about you always
and talk about you too.
Our love story is a favourite
the grandchildren ask me to tell, and I do.
It started when I was eighteen,
swept off my feet so swift.
Mix in sacrifice and hard work,
our four sons were each a gift.
The family times, our dancing,
and the joy of watching them grow.
How proud you were of the men they became,
I tell them so they will know.
Your grandchildren around the table,
All twelve, listen they do.
Every pasta dish left emptied,
Each one of them, a piece of you.
I showed them all where we came from,
the mountains and towns.
We believe you were with us on our journey,
a trip of a lifetime we found.
The heartbreak I went through,
when illness made you weak.
My words cannot describe,
so, of that, I rarely speak.
I hope my words do justice
to the beautiful life we had.
The way you made me feel...
It’s a story of true love, but I can’t help being sad.
On this anniversary of twenty years
without you, I have seen
How full my life is with what we created,
But also, what could have been?
Remembering you with all my love,
Emma
