While June passenger traffic at the Sault Ste. Marie Airport rose slightly compared to May of this year, the numbers represent a decrease of 87 per cent over 2019.
“The trend in passenger levels is certainly encouraging and the aircraft arrivals later in the month certainly seemed fuller," said Terry Bos, Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation (SSMADC) president and CEO, in a news release issued today.
Porter Airlines is scheduled to resume flights from Sault Ste. Marie in October, and Bearskin Airlines is currently operating four daily flights Monday to Friday and two flights on Sundays.
"With Air Canada adding a second daily flight in mid-July and Porter’s announced return of two daily flights in October, the future is finally starting to look more optimistic for a return to travel.”
