Pharmacy shoppers will get their first glimpse of the Wellington Square Mall's new look with the opening of a renovated IDA Drug Mart location.

The pharmacy's new space, which sees the drug store move within the mall, opened this week and will be followed later this month by the opening of a highly-anticipated Giant Tiger discount department store. Starbucks and Subway locations are also planned.

IDA said in a release issued today that a Sweet Greetings and walk-in clinic are 'coming soon' to the new Drug Mart location, which continues to operate under special COVID-19 hours (9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday). Wellington Square Drug Mart is one of four IDA pharmacies in town, with a new location planned for Queen East and Bruce, according to an application filed with the city.

As for Giant Tiger, the company said its 18,000-square-foot Sault store would open at the end of July when it first made the announcement back in January, but the opening will now happen on Aug. 29, according to the retailer's website.

A map posted by the mall's owner revealed in March that the site would be rebranded as The Shoppes on Transcanada as part of a major renovation of the building that would see the shopping centre move away from the indoor mall concept. A map of the planned renovation also shows an H&R Block, a Dollar Tree and a Winexpert location.
