Passenger traffic numbers continue to recover at the Sault Ste. Marie Airport, according to its development corporation.
The airport recorded 12,481 passengers through the terminal in June, but still down 28 per cent from the same month in 2019 when the facility handled 17,331 passengers.
“The recovery trend that started in February has certainly been encouraging,” said Terry Bos, Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corp. president-CEO in a news release.
“The leisure travel market is recovery much nicer than that of the business travel market. As the economy continues to return to more normal activity, it is hoped that business and government travel will soon return as well.”
Airport stats show passenger traffic through the terminal steadily building with each month since the beginning of the year. In January, 4,937 passengers transitted the terminal. May was the first month in three years that passenger volume surpassed the 10,000 mark at 11,378.
The airport is served by three carriers.
Air Canada Express is running three flights daily.
Bearskin Airlines is running two flights on Sunday, five flights daily Monday and Friday; and six flights daily Tuesday to Thursday.
Porter is providing two daily flights Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday; three daily flights Monday, Thursday, Friday; and one on Saturday.
