Algoma University and Universidad del Quindío in Colombia recently signed an inter-institutional agreement to establish an international partnership to support a range of student and faculty initiatives.

“Algoma University is pleased to enter into a formal agreement with Quindio,” said Algoma University Registrar David Marasco. “Academic exchanges provide students and faculty with exciting opportunities for academic enrichment and personal growth. We look forward to future collaborations between our two universities.”

The agreement will provide a foundation for promoting international and intercultural understanding and exchange. Students from both institutions can take part in cultural and academic exchanges, thereby enriching the campus culture of both universities and fostering cultural awareness.

Faculty members are also welcome to take part in collaborative research opportunities, enhancing each university’s research strengths and capacities.

Algoma’s accredited English as a Second Language (ESL) program will also benefit from the new agreement. Colombian students will be able to take part in either of Algoma’s English for Academic Purposes Program or short-term ESL programming, before transitioning into a degree program.

The partnership emerged from the academic work conducted in Colombia by Dr. Sheila Gruner, Chair of the Community, Economic, and Social Development (CESD) program at Algoma.
