The Algoma University Board of Governors (the Board) is accepting applications for new external members.

The Board is seeking highly-skilled individuals with experience in governance who will ensure the Board collectively reflects the diversity of Canadian society and Algoma University’s students.

In particular, the Board is seeking individuals with expertise in financial planning and investment management, legal affairs, and capital planning, and welcomes applicants from the three communities where Algoma University is rooted: Brampton, Sault Ste. Marie, and Timmins. External Board members cannot be current students, staff or faculty members of the University.

Deeply embedded in these communities, Algoma University draws strength and inspiration from their people, histories, and significance. The University is committed to addressing the needs of the communities it serves, with a strong focus on local and regional priorities. Central to this commitment is Algoma University’s Special Mission: to be a teaching-focused institution that promotes cross-cultural learning between Anishinaabe peoples and non-Indigenous communities.

As Algoma University enters a dynamic new phase guided by its Strategic Plan, it remains committed to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion. The University is also focused on ensuring responsible financial stewardship, enabling both short-term resilience and long-term sustainability, and building a strong foundation for continued growth and innovation.

The volunteer members of the Board play a critical role in shaping Algoma University’s current and future success. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strengths in strategic governance leadership, stakeholder engagement, integrity, diverse perspectives, and a commitment to higher education and Algoma U’s Special Mission. For this recruitment cycle, the Board is particularly seeking individuals with expertise in investments, legal affairs, and capital planning.

The leadership and guidance of talented, strategic, and engaged Board members is critical to Algoma University’s success, and the adherence to and promotion of its Special Mission.

The application deadline for candidates is May 27, 2025. More information and instructions for applicants is available on the Board’s website.
