Sault College is excited to announce a new intake for its tuition-free pre-apprenticeship program, “Drive Your Way into the Automotive Industry,” designed for individuals eager to launch a career as an automotive service technician or parts technician. This program will run from July 7, 2025, through February 27, 2026. Applications are now open. If you are currently unemployed or underemployed and looking for a pathway to secure an apprenticeship or entry-level position in the automotive sector, this program offers the perfect opportunity to gain the skills, certifications, and hands-on experience you need to succeed.

“We are protecting Ontario workers by investing in pre-apprenticeship programs that open doors to stable and rewarding careers in Ontario’s skilled trades,” said David Piccini, Ontario's Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. “That’s why the government of Ontario is proud to support the Drive Your Way into the Automotive Industry program through Employment Ontario. By offering people free access to valuable skills training, Sault College is creating hands-on opportunities for people seeking careers in the automotive trades, while also boosting productivity for the industry and addressing the growing demand for skilled tradespeople in our province.”

This program aligns with Sault College and the Government of Ontario’s commitment to addressing the growing demand for skilled tradespeople by empowering individuals of diverse backgrounds to pursue rewarding careers in the trades. It also supports local employers by preparing apprentices who are ready to contribute effectively from day one.

“Pre-Apprenticeship is a great pathway into the trades,” said Lori Crosson, Dean, Continuing Education, Sault College. “The pre-apprenticeship training program is a great opportunity for learners to test the waters, to see if the trades would be a good fit for their career aspirations. The program consists of many wonderful features such as employability skills; workshops such as resume writing; micro-credentials; health and safety training; as well as a paid placement.”

Participants will receive:

  • Hands-on training focused on automotive service and parts technician skills
  • Literacy and basic skills development
  • Employability skills and career readiness workshops
  • Health and safety certifications
  • Personalized student support
  • An eight-week paid work placement to gain real-world experience
