NEWS RELEASE
BATCHEWANA FIRST NATION
*****************************
Batchewana First Nation (BFN) is pleased to announce that the boil water advisory issued on May 8, 2025, for the Goulais Bay 15A community has been officially rescinded.
The advisory was initially issued due to high turbidity levels in the source water (Goulais Bay), resulting from an unusually large amount of rainfall and snowmelt runoff this spring. These conditions temporarily impacted the quality of the raw water supply.
Recent testing has confirmed that the water supplied by the community’s water system is now safe to drink. Turbidity levels in the source water have significantly decreased, and the treatment system is consistently producing safe drinking water. Specifically, the treated water has shown:
- Chlorine residuals above 0.2 mg/L
- Turbidity levels below 1 NTU
- Absence of total coliforms and E. coli bacteria
This decision to issue — and now lift — the advisory was made by BFN leadership out of an abundance of caution to safeguard the health and well-being of community members.
We thank all residents for their understanding and cooperation during this time.
