Matthew Memorial Hospital Association golf tournament committee is putting the final touches on the up-and-coming tournament at Island Springs Golf Resort in Richards Landing.
The Island Spring Charity Golf Classic is set for Aug. 19.
Among the 11 team members registered is NHL hockey player Trevor Daley.
Daley, a Detroit Red Wings defenseman, will be trading in his hockey stick for a set of golf clubs and hitting the greens in a bid to help raise money for the island charitable organization.
There is space available to register. The committee encourages prospective golf teams to register soon with the tournament fast approaching.
Entry fee is $100 with a roast beef dinner included. Tax receipts for $20 will be provided.
On Nov. 21, 2017, the Matthews Memorial Hospital Association celebrated its 92nd year of dedicated service and gratitude for the support it has received from permanent and seasonal residents, said MMHA board chair and committee member, Lavera Crack.
The catchment area spans across the North Shore from Echo Bay to Bruce Mines including St. Joseph Island. The classic golf tournament is the largest fund raising initiative for MMHA with funds raised for physician recruitment and retention.
"We own the hospital but our main focus is the Island Medical Clinic," Crack said. "We have to provide a turn-key place for physicians to practice."
Board members are facing some major renovations regarding its heating and cooling system. Two furnaces and a cooling system are housed within the Richards Landing-based clinic.
