As the Queen Street reconstruction continues downtown, Brock Street north of Queen will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 5 and Friday, Sept. 6 to finalize paving work there.
The Downtown Association advised its members today that access to Brock Street businesses will be maintained on those days from Albert Street.
Last week, the plan was to move the road construction work to the south side of Queen Street after Labour Day.
Today, businesses were advised that won't happen until the end of this week.
"The diversion may be done in stages," engineering consultant AECOM said.
Here's what the contractor hopes to get done this week:
Elgin to March
- continue with installation of new watermain towards Elgin
- complete with installation of new sanitary sewer starting at Civic 446 towards Elgin
March to Spring (north side)
- complete installation of unit pavers in boulevard
- complete wiring of new street light poles
- complete power supply on March Street for new street lighting
Spring to East of Brock (north side)
- complete concrete curbs and ramps at Brock intersection and misc. sidewalk patches
- commence with installation of unit pavers and precast retaining wall for planters
- complete paving of first lift of asphalt on Queen through Brock intersection later in week during two-day closure of Brock
- complete wiring of new street light poles
- complete power supply on Brock Street for new street lighting
Queen Street is now closed from March to Elgin and will remain closed until early October.
This year's Queen Street road work is expected to be substantially completed by late this fall with some work possibly continuing into 2025.
