The opening of a new record breaking roller coaster at Canada’s Wonderland is just around the corner.
Canada’s Wonderland said in a news release last week that its new ride, AlpenFury, is expected to open in “a couple weeks.”
All track pieces and columns of the roller coaster are reportedly installed and the layout is officially complete.
AlpenFury is a dual-launch roller coaster and will be the longest, tallest and fastest launch roller coaster in Canada, the amusement park said on its website.
“Up next comes an extensive testing and commissioning phase where we’ll run the trains hundreds of times, train our ride operators and get signoff from the TSSA. Guests may see those trains running early next week,” a spokesperson for the park said in a statement.
AlpenFury is the 18th ride at Canada’s Wonderland, boasting 52 track sections and 480 columns held together with 6,000 bolts.
The coaster will take riders inside Wonder Mountain, the amusement park’s centre display.
Riders will then get propelled vertically outside of the mountain — 50 metres high — before going through nine inversions, which is the most inversions for any launch coaster in the world, according to Canada’s Wonderland.
AlpenFury will have 18 riders per train and reach maximum speeds of 115 km/h. It is 1,000 metres in length.
