They are seen in every community and are among some of the most dedicated. They are our seniors.

Some are long-time residents of the community, while others chose to retire to his or her community and willing to contribute their time, where and when needed.

June marks the 32nd anniversary of Senior's Month in Ontario.

To mark the occasion, the Dr. Harold S. Trefry Centre Seniors and Disabled Persons Advisory committee hosted its 22nd annual Seniors Barbecue recognizing outstanding seniors from the eight municipalities within its catchment area.

Few that gathered at the Royal Canadian Legion recently were also present over two decades ago when the now, Dr. Harold S. Trefry Memorial Centre was named and the inaugural senior's volunteer luncheon held.

For several years, the barbecue luncheon drew residents to the centre until it outgrew its capacity resulting a move to the Richards Landing Legion.

Echoed in every community on any given day, residents could not enjoy many of the programs in place today without dedicated individuals such as our seniors who contribute countless hours from sports programs to health care committees.

Entertainment was provided by Mike Cormier, and Margie and Wayne Nott.
