Ice falling from the bridge has forced the Mackinac Bridge Authority to close the bridge linking the upper peninsula to the mitt at 5:11 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to the authority website, there is no estimated time for the bridge to be reopened.

Live camera footage of the bridge on its site shows the structure coated in ice. There are also reports of ice falling from the arches at times.

The Mackinac Bridge has closed due to falling ice 28 times since 1995, for an average duration of roughly five hours per closure. This is the third bridge closure this week, with the bridge having previously closed Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning due to falling ice.

SooLeader will have more on this when information becomes available.
