Algoma University is anticipating record enrolment this year.

The University is reporting that, based on preliminary data, the post-secondary institution is seeing a 26.3 per cent increase in first-year students entering from Ontario secondary schools, a number that the school reports is highest in the province.

Algoma's Board of Governors learned at its first fall term meeting on Wednesday that the school is two years ahead of schedule as well when it comes to achieving its short-term enrolment goals of 3,000 full-time equivalent students combined between its three campuses - Sault Ste. Marie, Brampton, and Timmins.

The Board also approved its financial statements for the fiscal year ending on April 30, 2021 at Wednesday's meeting.

In a release, the university reported "continued growth through capital investments of $5.3M while achieving a $1.8M operating surplus by balancing tuition revenue with operating expenditures."
