The Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society is looking to help jump-start gardens in the Sault.
The greenhouse team spent the winter months sowing and growing and will have their locally-grown plants for sale at its annual plant sale, which will happen on Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. to noon.
The sale will feature a variety of annuals, vegetables, herbs, and perennials and will be held at the Parks Canada Canal greenhouse, which is just past the main canal buildings and adjacent to the superintendent's residence.
“I am looking forward to seeing eager gardeners come out to select their favourite tomato plants or other vegetables. We always have a full selection of vegetables, grown in the greenhouse, plus our members always have a great collection of donated perennials for purchase,” said Rod Morrison, SSMHS President said.
“I can’t wait to see the full variety of flowers and vegetables our volunteer greenhouse growers have sown, this year.”
Attendees are encouraged to bring small currency and a way of carrying their purchases such as bags, boxes or wagons.
Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society memberships will also be available.
The $15 annual membership includes discounts at a number of area garden centres, greenhouses, landscaping/yard services, florists and pruning and tree/shrub care suppliers.
The Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society also holds informational garden talks, which are held on the first Monday of the month, from September to June at 7 p.m. on the lower level (back entrance) of the United Baptist Church at 41 Malabar.
