ELLIOT LAKE – Police have released few details in connection with an infant death reported in Elliot Lake over the weekend.
The East Algoma OPP say that on Dec. 9, shortly after 10:45 a.m., officers attended the hospital in Elliot Lake, where Algoma Paramedic Services had transported an infant with no vital signs.
Police said a postmortem examination will be taking place in Toronto.
"The investigation is in its early stages and no further details can be released at this time," police said in a news release. "Further information will be provided when it becomes available."
According to the release, the investigation is being conducted by the OPP's East Algoma Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services.
They are under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
