Frequented by thousands over five decades, the annual Maple Syrup Festival will be held in less than one month. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 374 in Richards Landing is hosting its 51st annual festival on April 7 and 8, 14 and 15. Doors open at 8 a.m. and the event runs until 3 p.m. Cost is $9.50 for adults, $8.50 for seniors and $5 for children.

The four-day festival over two consecutive weekends has attracted guests from across St. Joseph Island, the North Shore and beyond. Guests have visited the James Harten M. Community Centre, St. Joseph Island from Wawa to Sudbury and as far as the Yukon.

Plan to attend and prepare for the ever sweet taste of local maple syrup topped on pancakes of a secret recipe plus amazing sausages. Browse the vendors booths of maple syrup from local producers as well, various arts, crafts and treats.

Conscientious of the environment, the legion will be using biodegradable plates, cups and bags.

The Maple Syrup Festival, a legion fund raiser, helps provide much needed assistance to veterans, their families and to the community, including many senior and youth groups.
