A local musician is putting on a country concert in Echo Bay this August, teaming up with youth and other local acts to bring the community together for the show – free of charge.
The Big Loonie End of Summer Concert is set for Aug. 30 at the Echo Bay Sportsplex, with performances beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Wright, who put on a similar show in front of hundreds last year, said getting the community together for a free concert is his way of using music to give back.
“It’s giving back to the community the best way that I can,” he told SooToday.
“My priority is doing this and then finding a way to give back to everybody while I'm trying to still grow what I'm doing. It's a really refreshing way of working.”
For this year’s performance, Wright plans to bring out other local bands, as well as local youth to open up the show. His own band, The Way Backs, will headline the event.
“The idea is we’re going to get registrations of anyone under 18 to get together . . . to make a full band of about four or five kids,” he said.
“They're going to rehearse and practice a song or two, or however many they can muster, and then we put them into the (concert) as the opening for the whole show.”
Youth or bands who are interested in performing during the show can find more on Wright’s website.
Wright also encourages anyone who would like to sponsor the event to contact him at jeffreywrightmusic@gmail.com.
