Demolition of 645-647 Queen St. E began this week. The building was slated for demolition after it was decimated by a fire in May.

The labour ministry is investigating a complaint about health and safety concerns during recent demolition of the Queen Street building that housed the Silly Rabbit Vape Shop.

SooToday contacted the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development earlier this week after social media posts said someone may have been injured during the demolition.

“On November 27, 2024, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development was notified of a complaint that occurred in Sault Ste. Marie,” the spokesperson said via email.

“It is reported that there were health and safety concerns at a building. A ministry inspector has been assigned to investigate. As our investigation is ongoing, we are unable to provide further details at this time.”

The ministry could not confirm if anyone was injured.
