An article in Maclean's on Standout Nursing Programs in Canada has listed the Bachelor of Science Nursing program at Laurentian University.

The article which was published Monday said the "high demand and rapid technological advancements make nursing an exciting, well-paying career."

The story spoke of nursing in general terms across Canada being part of a "booming job market" and how the health system is sorely in need of new candidates.

“The Financial Accountability Office of Ontario projects a need for 33,000 more nurses and personal support workers by 2028," said the Maclean's story.

The article also listed five university nursing programs in the country, under the heading Standout Nursing Programs.

Laurentian's program was listed first, followed by the BScN programs at Queen's University, the University of Alberta, the University of British Columbia (Okanagan) and McMaster University.

The information listed for Laurentian highlighted small class sizes and LU's tricultural mandate.

"Programming in both English and French differentiate Laurentian University’s nursing program. Located in Sudbury, Ontario, the school reserves at least 10 of the 78 English spots, and a few of its 30 French spots, each year for First Nations, Métis or Inuit students as part of a tri-cultural mandate," said the Maclean's story.

"The program features small class sizes and integrates social, health and nursing sciences into classroom and laboratory simulations. Clinical placements in the Sudbury area start in first year. Fourth-year students can take master’s level courses," the article continued.

The story was featured as part of Maclean's overall guide to university choices in Canada.

Laurentian offers a four-year bachelor of science in nursing degree. Eligible students can also pursue a master’s in nursing upon achieving their bachelor. As well, Laurentian has had a formal collaborative partnership with Cambrian College, Northern College and Sault College. The year 2025 marks the final graduating class for the Collaborative BScN program with Cambrian and Sault College.

Upon admission to the Collaborative program at Northern College, students may complete the entire English BScN program in Timmins, Ontario.
