Crews were spotted repairing a busted utility pole in the parking lot of Wholesale Club on Wednesday after a transport truck reportedly collided with it — knocking out power to the business for about two hours.
In an email to SooToday, PUC spokesperson Jairus Patterson said crews discovered a broken pole with a downed power line resting on top of a transport truck when they arrived on scene shortly after 7 a.m.
“The driver remained inside the vehicle, waiting for confirmation that it was safe to exit — exactly the right thing to do in this situation,” Patterson said.
Power at Wholesale Club was restored just before 9 a.m. No power outages were reported by other businesses or homes in the area.
PUC is reminding the public to stay back at least 10 metres from downed power lines — about the length of a school bus — and call 911 or your local utility immediately.
