NEWS RELEASE
UNITED WAY SAULT STE MARIE
*************************
On Tuesday, March 5, 2019 in celebration of International Women’s Day, United Way Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District held a gathering to celebrate women and bring light to the struggles that poverty brings to purchasing feminine hygiene products.

This year we successfully collected 501 boxes, totaling 13,795 individual products. With those donations we will be able to provide the supplies for 603 individual periods or for perspective, provide products for 50 women in poverty for a full year.

We would like to extend thanks to local businesses such as Shoppers Drug Mart, Azure Medispa, Local Metros and with a huge thank you to the Sault Ste. Marie and District Labour Council and all their unions for the support they provided.

A special thanks to Michelle, a local community member, who heard about our efforts and was able to collect additional products with the help of her friends, family and co-workers. Thank you to the community as a whole, for coming and attending the event and for the support they have showed for this great cause.

You can still help! United Way Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District is collecting unopened packages of Feminine Hygiene Product up until March 29, 2019. Please drop off your donation to our local office at 301-258 Queen Street East or to United Way’s Harvest Algoma at 446 Second Line East.

If you would like to learn more on how you or your organization can get involved or have any questions, please contact the United Way at 705-256-7476 ext. 213.
