Cultural Industries Ontario North (CION) launched a new database on Wednesday for Northern Ontario’s film workforce.
CION’s Crew Database is a one-stop resource for anyone looking to hire crew members for film or television productions in the north.
The database features close to 1,000 members, including location managers, art directors, hundreds of sound, lighting and grip professionals, and a variety of specialized positions.
“Northern Ontario has seen an increase in film and television productions over the past few years, with televisions shows like Cardinal and Letterkenny, and feature films such as Resident Evil, Indian Horse and The Kid Detective, to name a few filmed right here in the North,” said Rob Riselli, film programs and reporting supervisor at CION.
“One of the key reasons for filming here is our productions crews and, with that, CION is pleased to announce the launch of our Northern Crew Database.”
CION partnered with Toronto-based digital marketing company The New Business to create the database.
It makes a point of being user friendly and highlighting crews from the North’s six main production centres in Thunder Bay, Timmins, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, North Bay and Parry Sound.
“It was such a pleasure for my team here at The New Business to work on this project,” said Adam Rosadiuk.
“Not only was it great to build something that is a real benefit to an industry and a community, but we also got to work on some really cool tech.”
Signing up is simple and free. Crew members are encouraged to create their own profile online where they can upload resumes and get connected to all productions shooting across Northern Ontario.
Producers are also encouraged to sign up through their VIP portal to gain access to hundreds of profiles and all the information they need to hire in the North.
Profiles are searchable by name, city, credit, production and union affiliation.
CION is dedicated to fostering and promoting the music and film industries in Northern Ontario, as well as providing educational programming to cultivate the advancement of Northern Ontario’s emerging talent.
