Ontario's elected New Democrat MPPs have been appointed to specific shadow cabinet positions.
The New Democrats, with 27 elected members, make up the official opposition in the Ontario Legislature.
The two MPPs who represent the Sudbury and Nickel Belt ridings, Jamie West and France Gélinas, are both retaining their previous roles as "shadow cabinet" members, said Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles.
As in the past, Nickel Belt MPP France Gélinas will be the official opposition critic for the Ministry of Health, as well as for Francophone Affairs.
Sudbury MPP Jamie West will continue his role as the official opposition critic for the Ministry of Labour, as well as the Ministry of Energy and Mines. West is also appointed as deputy party whip for the NDP, the party member who ensures other members show up for important votes.
Also from Northern Ontario, Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP John Vanthof is named House Leader and official critic for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Agribusiness and Rural Affairs.
Guy Bourgouin, the MPP for Mushkegowuk-James Bay, has been named shadow minister for Natural Resources and Forestry.
Sol Mamakwa, MPP for Kiiwetinoong, has been named NDP Deputy Leader, and shadow Minister for Indigenous and Treaty Relations and for Northern Economic Development and Growth.
Lise Vaugeois, MPP for Thunder Bay—Superior North, was named shadow minister for Seniors and Accessibility with responsibility for WSIB and Injured Workers.
