Ontario reports 598 new COVID cases Friday

Public Health Ontario reported 598 new COVID cases today.

The latest updates noted 462 recoveries and four new deaths. One additional death that occurred more than a month ago was added to the cumulative total today. 

The Nov. 12 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

• 207 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, but this number is underestimated as more than 10 per cent of Ontario hospitals did not submit to the daily bed census yesterday. 
• There are 107 COVID-positive patients in the ICU plus another 23 patients no longer testing positive for COVID-19.
• There are 59 COVID-positive patients on ventilators and another 13 patients on ventilators no longer testing positive for COVID. 
• 11,126,663 Ontarians (about 75 per cent of the total population) have been fully vaccinated. 88 per cent of eligible Ontarians have at least one dose of vaccine.
• Vaccination status information for new cases and hospitalizations was not updated at publication time.
• The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 8.1 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 2.9 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 1.9 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.
• The province reported 33,364 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.8 per cent positivity rate.
• Of the new cases reported today, 63 are from Toronto, 43 are from Peel, 55 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 32 are from York Region.
• Today's new cases include 100 individuals under 12 years old, 40 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 194 people between 20 and 39 years old, 167 people between 40 and 59 years old, 70 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 17 people over 79 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 605,846 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 591,525  recoveries and 9,921 deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, 30,840 people have been hospitalized with COVID and 6,059 of them were in intensive care units.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 4,111.9 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 23.7 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 27.4 per cent compared to the week of Oct. 27.

Northern Ontario 

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

• Algoma Public Health: 632 cases, weekly rate of 34.8 cases per 100,000 people. There are 90 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 90 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 87 per cent have both doses.
• North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 862 cases, weekly rate of 39.4 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 864 cases. There are 48 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 87 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 83 per cent have both doses.
• Porcupine Health Unit: 2,248 cases, weekly rate of 12.9  cases per 100,000 people. There are 16 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 90 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 85 per cent have both doses.
• Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 3,170 cases, weekly rate of 109.6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,188 cases. There are 270 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 91 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 88 per cent have both doses.
• Timiskaming Health Unit: 253 cases, weekly rate of 20.7 cases per 100,000 people.  The health unit has reported 258 cases. There are 8 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 88 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 84 per cent have both doses.
• Northwestern Health Unit: 1,203 cases, weekly rate of 7.4 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,202 cases. There are 5 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 90 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 84 per cent have both doses.
• Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,457 cases, weekly rate of 16.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,458 cases. There are 22 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 94 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 90 per cent have both doses.
