Ontario reports 711 new COVID cases Thursday

Public Health Ontario reported 711 new COVID cases today.

The latest updates noted 575 recoveries and five new deaths. 

The Nov. 18 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • 4,872 active cases, up from 4,741 reported yesterday. 
  • 278 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.
  • There are 104 COVID-positive patients in the ICU plus another 25 patients no longer testing positive for COVID-19.
  • There are 65 COVID-positive patients on ventilators and another 13 patients on ventilators no longer testing positive for COVID. 
  • 11,178,476 Ontarians (about 75 per cent of the total population) have been fully vaccinated. 88 per cent of eligible Ontarians have at least one dose of vaccine.
  • Included in the new cases reported today are 322 unvaccinated, 28 partially vaccinated, and 314 fully vaccinated people. 47 cases were reported with vaccination status unknown. 
  • In the ICU, there are 60 unvaccinated, four partially vaccinated, and 17 fully vaccinated COVID patients. 
  • Hospitalized COVID patients (not in the ICU) include 90 unvaccinated, 14 partially vaccinated, and 72 fully vaccinated individuals.
  • The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 8.9 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 4.7 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 2.2 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.
  • The province reported 34,347 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a two per cent positivity rate.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 74 are from Toronto, 40 are from Peel, 67 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 39 are from York Region.
  • Today's new cases include 151 individuals under 12 years old, 49 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 202 people between 20 and 39 years old, 167 people between 40 and 59 years old, 104 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 37 people over 79 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 609,429 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 594,602  recoveries and 9,955 deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, 30,977 people have been hospitalized with COVID and 6,094 of them were in intensive care units.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 4,136.2 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 27.1 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 14.3 per cent compared to the week of Nov. 2.

Northern Ontario 

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 766 cases, weekly rate of 123.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 767 cases.  There are 209 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 91 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 87 per cent have both doses.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 881 cases, weekly rate of 15.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 882 cases. There are 26 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 87 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 84 per cent have both doses.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 2,260 cases, weekly rate of 24.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,262 cases. There are 19 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 91 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 85 per cent have both doses.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 3,339 cases, weekly rate of 105.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,385 cases. There are 227 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 91 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 88 per cent have both doses.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 273 cases, weekly rate of 26.6 cases per 100,000 people.  The health unit has reported 282 cases. There are 28 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 88 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 85 per cent have both doses.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,205 cases, weekly rate of 3.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,204 cases. There is one known active case. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 90 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 85 per cent have both doses.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,464 cases, weekly rate of 4.4 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,466 cases. There are 13 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 94 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 90 per cent have both doses.
