PUC Services Inc. is putting its fundraising energies behind a local foundation to help lessen the financial burden for families facing medical travel expenses.

During the month of April, PUC says it will donate $20 for each customer who registers for e-billing.

The money will go directly to support the Twinkie Foundation’s mission to assist families needing to travel to southern Ontario for medical care, the PUC says.

“We understand how costly it can be for families to travel for essential medical treatment,” Rob Brewer, CEO and president of PUC Services Inc. said in a news release.

“During such a stressful time, the last thing anyone should worry about is how they’ll cover travel expenses. The Twinkie Foundation does incredible work in our community, and we’re proud to support their efforts.”

By opting for e-billing, PUC customers will also improve their account management and reduce their environmental footprint, the electricity distributor said.

The Twinkie Foundation provides financial assistance for transportation and housing costs for people who must travel outside the region for medical treatment.

Its work allows families to focus on their health without the burden of unexpected expenses.

Last year, the Twinkie Foundation received 154 applications from local families — a 41 per cent increase over the previous year, the PUC said.

"We want to express our gratitude to PUC for partnering with us on this initiative,” said Greg Lefave, co-founder of The Twinkie Foundation.

"This project is a fantastic way to reduce waste and our carbon footprint while also supporting local families in need."

"This year, we expect to receive 240 applications, so switching to e-billing will significantly impact hundreds of children and families during a difficult time in their lives.”

The PUC encouraged customers to consider the switch to e-billing during the campaign to maximize the fundraising drive for the Twinkie Foundation.
