Today, representatives from RBC, along with Algoma University staff, students, faculty, and partners, announced a $250,000 donation through RBC Future Launch to support the Career Link program at Algoma University.

RBC Future Launch is RBC’s commitment to helping prepare Canadian youth for the jobs of tomorrow, today. This is done through supporting partners and programs that help students gain skills, get practical work experience, grow their networks, and enhance mental well-being.

With a focus on programs that are inclusive, and serve the needs of Indigenous learners as well as learners with disabilities, working with Algoma University was a natural fit.

“We’re excited to be working with Algoma University to bring RBC Future Launch to life for the students in our community. RBC Future Launch is about being a catalyst for change by bringing educators, public sector and not-for-profits together to co-create solutions to help young people better prepare for the future of work, said Scott Simon, regional vice president, RBC, “Career Link brings critical components together into one program to help youth across all intersections of diversity prepare for the ambiguities and opportunities that may cross their path on their career journey.”

Career Link is a Co-Curricular Certificate Program launched this past year with seed funding from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Career Ready Fund. The program develops career skills, networks, and includes a practical work experience component.

The final component of the program requires students to present a Career Portfolio that serves to highlight professional experience and skills. Career Link is unique in its emphasis on support for Indigenous learners, students with disabilities, and the incorporation of entrepreneurial skill development throughout the program.

“Career Link is an exciting option for students who wish to begin thinking about career preparedness early in their academic experience,” said Dawn White, director, Experiential Learning and International Affairs. “Career Link was developed in partnership with several organizations and has a unique emphasis on preparation for the northern Ontario labour market. RBC Future Launch funding provides the resources for Algoma University to run and enrich the program for years to come.”

RBC will remain on campus this evening to join students and employers at Algoma University’s Career Networking Night in EW205 from 5:30 - 7 p.m.
