The Senior Singers are set to put on their fourth annual benefit concert for St. Vincent Place this May.

Whether honing their craft or performing for others, the Senior Singers specialize in bringing people together through music.

On May 15, the group hopes to bring the community together for a good cause, with their fourth annual benefit concert set to raise donations for St. Vincent Place.

St. Vincent Place supports everyone, said Sonya Masotti, director of Senior Singers.

“It's not only things for men that they could bring in – it's things for their wives, their children, or cash.”

Ranging in age from their late 50s to their 90s, the group of 50 singers regularly put on concerts for seniors in local long-term care homes – as well as other events – like their recent performance of the national anthem for the masters competition at the local curling club.

“One of my ladies is 98, and we have a few others in their 90s,” Masotti said. “They're as spry as can be, and they go to all the concerts, and they are just having the time of their lives.”

Masotti said the group practices classic songs that seniors in long-term care are likely to remember, and the group has received letters “about how much enjoyment they bring to the homes.”

“We notice that even if they're in a wheelchair . . . pretty soon, the feet are tapping, the heads are bobbing, and some of them are even singing the songs with us because they remember the words,” she said.

Since forming in 1978, the group has fluctuated in membership, but has continued to put on concerts for the community over the years.

Masotti said all are welcome at their May 15 benefit concert.

“If anybody wants to go to the Moose on May 15, they're most welcome – bring a donation of some kind and enjoy the music, because that's what we're all about,” she said.

"The Moose hall is packed every year, and it's amazing how many people show up and all the donations we get. It's just wonderful.”

Refreshments will be donated for the concert courtesy of A&A catering.

Set for 2 p.m. at the Moose Lodge on Trunk Road, the price of admission is a donation to St. Vincent Place – whether non-perishable food, clothing, or money.
