WEATHER ALERT
ENVIRONMENT CANADA
*************************
Snow squall warning replaces snow squall watch for:
- Agawa - Lake Superior Park
- Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay
Current details:
Snow squalls are expected to continue.
Hazards:
Locally heavy snowfall with accumulations of 20 to 30 cm.
Peak snowfall rates of 2 to 5 cm per hour.
Very poor visibility at times in heavy snow.
Timing:
Continuing through this afternoon or evening.
Discussion:
Lake effect snow squalls off Lake Superior will continue to affect the area today. The highest snowfall amounts are expected along highway 17 between Lake Superior Provincial Park and Batchawana Bay. The snow squalls are forecast to shift south and out of the area this afternoon or evening as the wind direction changes from westerly to northerly.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common.
Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight. For information on emergency plans and kits go to https://www.getprepared.gc.ca/.
Snow squall warnings are issued when bands of snow form that produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
