Superior Adult Learning, a non-profit adult literacy organization established in Sault Ste. Marie in 1987, will benefit from a $5,000 contribution from the United Steelworkers Local 2724.
According to Bill Slater, president of USW 2724, the contribution is another example of the Local 2724 membership giving back to the community.
“Superior Adult Learning helps people learn the skills they need to be successful in today’s world,” Slater said in a news release.
“They have been helping people in our community for more than 35 years and we are pleased to provide them with much-needed support.”
Thomas Gravelines, president of Superior Adult Learning’s volunteer board of directors, expressed his appreciation for the contribution from the USW 2724 membership.
“We are hoping to raise enough funds to hire a second instructor, to bring skills tutoring services — reading, writing, math and digital — to more locations in Sault Ste. Marie,” Gravelines said.
“This is an important contribution towards our goal and we really appreciate the support from USW 2724.”
