More than 500 workers at Tenaris in the Sault could end up on strike in the near future after they voted against ratifying the latest contract offer this week.
The current contract was set to expire on May 31. United Steelworkers Local 9548 and Tenaris jointly agreed to extend the contract.
“The Union and Tenaris are collaborating to reach a new collective agreement and jointly agree to return to the bargaining table,” the company said in a joint statement with the union.
“We have also extended the current CBA terms beyond May 31 to provide time to come to a new agreement and continue the bargaining process in good faith.”
The length of the extension will be determined once they return to the bargaining table.
