This clinic invites locals to get moving at upcoming social

‘Fantastic opportunity to bring people together:’ Aline Wellness is hosting a special movement class and social hour catered to all levels at Tap Room rooftop next month

A local physiotherapist and Pilates instructor is gearing up for an event next month that aims to promote healthy living for the mind, body, and soul.

Ali Greco and her colleagues from Aline Wellness, a multidisciplinary clinic on Queen Street, will oversee a 60-minute movement class catered to all levels, followed by a 60-minute social at the Northern Superior and Tap Room rooftop.

The class will feature a mix of bodyweight strength training and little bursts of cardio, with moments of releasing and relaxing.

“It goes through all different types of movement,” she explained. “We’ll add in some cardio, stretches, mindfulness. But everything is all levels, and we always provide modifications for people.”

Operating downtown for more than two years, Aline Wellness offers a number of health and wellness services for residents of all ages, including orthopaedic and pelvic floor physiotherapy, as well as nutrition, Pilates mat/reformer classes, rehabilitation, sound baths, and pre/post-natal yoga.

The health space has also introduced a new program in collaboration with GLA:D Canada, which works with people who live with hip and knee arthritis.

“It’s basically a circuit-based program to help increase strength, decrease pain, and improve function,” Greco explained. “It can hopefully put off surgery, but if surgery still has to happen, then we make a better outcome for that.”

While she recognizes this time of year can be challenging for people to get out of the house and exercise, Greco noted the payoff is rewarding.

“At least for myself, I know it’s hard to get motivated and to get moving, especially in the summer months,” she said. “I also know it can be hard to meet people. But this is a great way to accomplish both – get your body moving and also socialize.”

“We believe this event is a fantastic opportunity to bring people together in the heart of downtown, promoting both wellness and community spirit,” she added.

The movement class and social will be taking place at the Tap Room rooftop on Aug. 11 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Readers interested in registering must do so online by clicking here.

Each ticket includes the class and a beverage of choice (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and gratuities. Attendees are asked to bring their own mat.

A talented local DJ will be providing music and lighting for the evening, according to Greco.

And yes, men can join too.

“More men need to do Pilates,” she said. “We encourage men to come to these classes.”
