Volunteers prep hiking trail north of Desbarats

More trail maintenance days are on the horizon

Fifteen Saulteaux Club of the Voyageur Hiking Trail members and volunteers spent Mother’s Day Weekend getting a trail ready for hiking season.

They met up near Tower Lake north of Desbarats on Saturday, May 10.

“After a tough winter, the trail was in need of some serious love! Volunteers trimmed overgrown bushes and trees, cleared fallen trees and branches, and even replaced signage to help fellow hikers stay on track,” said the club.

“Thanks to their hard work, the trail is now safer, more accessible, and ready to welcome all hikers.”

More trail maintenance days are on the horizon.

On Friday, May 23, a group planned to inspect and repair the main trail on the south side of Crystal Creek, from Connor Road to Mabel Lake.

Then on Sunday, May 25, they will improve the trails north of Tower Lake along Two Horse Lake Road.
