City workers are planning to close part of Corey Avenue for four weeks to carry out an emergency replacement of 120 metres of water main.

At a meeting on Tuesday, city council is expected to approve closure of Corey between Manitou Drive and Wiber Street for four weeks starting Monday, Oct. 7.

"The PUC has been working on a water main rehabilitation project that involves the lining of existing water mains within Manitou Park on Corey Avenue and Manitou Drive," says Carl Rumiel, the city's director of engineering, in a report prepared for Mayor Matthew Shoemaker and city councillors.

"Due to a problem with one of the water main lining sections on Corey Avenue between Manitou Drive and Wiber Street, it will be necessary to complete an emergency open-cut replacement of approximately 120 metres of water main.

"To complete the work, it will be necessary to close Corey Avenue between Manitou Drive and Wiber Street to through traffic for up to four weeks. The road will remain open to local traffic only," Rumiel says.

Next week's city council meeting will be held on Tuesday because Monday is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The meeting will be live-streamed on SooToday starting at 5 p.m.
