The only time the Sault area had a warmer October was in 1947. Ironically, the World Series 1947 was also between the Yankees and the Dodgers (Brooklyn). The daytime average high in October of 1947 was 18.5°C; this month, it was 16.1°C. The normal for October daytime highs is closer to 10°C.
October 2021 also recorded an average daytime high of 16.1°C. Another common weather thread between this October and those of 1947 and 2021 is that they were very dry, with less than half the average monthly precipitation. These similarities leave me wondering if they can give us a glimpse into what November and this winter might hold.
Both 1947 and 2021 saw November temperatures closer to normal but still a couple of degrees warmer than normal. Both had snow in those months, with the first measurable snow in the first seven days. Both ended with over 20cm on the ground by the end of the month. So, despite the warm Fall, winter might be closer than we think if 1947 and 2021 tell us anything.
For this weekend and the start of November, skies begin clearing Friday morning, and the afternoon will be mostly sunny, with temperatures only reaching 6°C. Saturday will be mostly sunny, with a few cloudy periods and daytime highs of 9°C.
Sunday starts sunny, but clouds arrive in the afternoon, followed by light rain into the evening and overnight. Daytime highs climb to 12°C on a gusty southeast wind.
The rain continues into Monday and Tuesday with overcast skies, gusty winds and daytime highs around 10°C.
