The Sault Star Wolf Pack under-16 boys Civic soccer team started and finished strong in Ontario Cup play Saturday and Sunday at sun-baked Strathclair Field. But it was a pair of losses to London Curinga in between that cost the locals. "We played (London) so much better in St. Thomas (at a Canada Day tournament.) As a matter of fact we outplayed them despite losing to them (2-1) back then. We really should have done better against them this time, on our own field," said Paul Montanini, head coach of the Sault team.

Here on the weekend, the locals lost 5-0 and 3-0 to London, which defeated and tied North York Spartacus at the three-team round-robin to advance to the next round of Ontario Cup competition. "It's too bad we didn't play as well against London as we did against North York," offered Montanini. "We have to overcome getting frustrated when a team scores a goal against us even if it is a bad goal." The Sault team opened the three-team, Ontario Cup round-robin with a 3-1 win over North York as Matthew Irving scored twice and Chris Montanini added the other. Then came successive losses to London before the Sault rebounded to tie North York 2-2 on goals by Irving and Graham Lorenzo. But it was too little, too late, for the Sault boys.
