Air Canada Cup playoffs begin today

The playoff pairings have been decided at the Air Canada Cup National AAA Midget Championships. College Antoine-Girouard (5-0) from the Quebec region will meet the Atlantic's St. John's Maple Leafs (2-3) at 1 p.m.

College Antoine-Girouard (5-0) from the Quebec region will meet the Atlantic's St. John's Maple Leafs (2-3) at 1 p.m. in one semi-final while the Pacific's Calgary Northstars (4-1) battle the West's Yorkton Harvest (3-2) at 4:30 p.m. in the other semi-final today at Memorial Gardens.

Yesterday, College Antoine-Girouard eliminated the Central region's Waterloo Wolves (1-4) with a 5-3 win while Calgary beat St. John's 4-0.

The Soo North Stars played their final game of the tournament yesterday with a 5-3 loss to Yorkton. The North Stars finished the tourney with an 0-5 record.

Nick Tombari scored a pair of goals for the North Stars while David Turco added a goal and an assist. Travis O'Brien stopped 36 of 41 shots in the North Stars' net.

Chris Korchinski scored three goals and added two assists for Yorkton while singles were scored by Michael Holmes, who added four assists, and Clayton Geiger.

The semi-final winners will meet in Sunday's championship game beginning at noon. The Bronze medal game between the semi-final losers will be played at 8:30 a.m. The final will be televised live on TSN.
