Aquatic Club begins competitive season

The Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club is back into another season of competitive swimming. SSMAC came home with a strong showing this past weekend at the season opening Timmins Northern Tel Invitational meet in Timmins.

The Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club is back into another season of competitive swimming.

SSMAC came home with a strong showing this past weekend at the season opening Timmins Northern Tel Invitational meet in Timmins.

Shannon Hazelton, a 17 year-old swimmer, led the 12-member squad with four first place finishes and a second place finish in three others.

Brian Lee, 11, also had a strong day in the pool with victories in three races, two second place standings and a third place finish.

Jen Dailey, 14, recorded two firsts, two seconds and two thirds while Peter Olinger, 15, added two firsts, two seconds and a third.

"This meet was a good tune up to start the season. We expect several of those attending will be among our top performers during the season," said SSMAC head coach Rob Moreside.

Cait Tomlinson, 13, and Steven Lee, 9, had a first and two second place finishes each while Lee added a third. Erin Lee, 7, recorded a second and a third while Carrie-Lynne Smale, 9, had two seconds.

In the medley relay, Brian Lee, Steven Lee, Jack Carlyle and Christopher Carlyle finished third in the boys 11-12 category.
