Bantam Hounds now 2-1 at provincials

The Soo Bantam Greyhounds are preparing for a pair of games on Wednesday after scoring a 5-0 win on Tuesday to improve to 2-1 at the Ontario Bantam AAA Hockey Championships in Thunder Bay. The Hounds will meet the Ottawa Valley Titans at 11 a.m.

The Soo Bantam Greyhounds are preparing for a pair of games on Wednesday after scoring a 5-0 win on Tuesday to improve to 2-1 at the Ontario Bantam AAA Hockey Championships in Thunder Bay.

The Hounds will meet the Ottawa Valley Titans at 11 a.m. on Wednesday before facing the Toronto Jr. Canadiens at 5 p.m.

After splitting their first two games on Monday, the Northern Ontario Bantam Hockey League and Northern Ontario Hockey Association champion Greyhounds scored a convincing 5-0 win over the London Jr. Knights on Tuesday.

Kyle Jean scored three goals to lead the Hounds while Justin Hogsden stopped 17 shots in goal for the shutout. Brett Perlini and Geoff Gieni also scored.

On Monday, the Greyhounds opened the tournament with a 5-3 loss to the Thunder Bay Kings before rebounding with a 7-1 win over the Fort Frances Taggs, who are entered as the tournament’s host team.

Jerry Petingalo scored twice for the Hounds and Mike Rivard once in the loss to Thunder Bay while Luke O’Brien, Kevin Closs, Jean, Petingalo, Zach Larue, Perlini and Tyler Liukkonen scored in the win over Fort Frances.

On Thursday, the Hounds will conclude the round robin portion of the schedule with a 3 p.m. contest against the Markham Waxers.

The top four teams after the round robin will play in the semi-finals on Friday with the winners meeting in Saturday's gold medal game and the losers playing for bronze.
