Best Western, from the Sault Female Hockey Association, took home top honours this past weekend in Hamilton at the 12th Annual Hamilton Hawkey Tournament.
After dropping their first game of the round robin on Friday night 1-0 to the host Hamilton team, the Sault girls came back to win four straight games outscoring their opponents 17-1 in the process. In their second game, Best Western got a two goal performance from Erica Aceti in defeating Kitchener 5-1. Single goals were scored by Bridgit Hindermeier, Holly Maskell and Reilly Nelson.
Needing a victory in the final game of round robin play to secure the final play-off spot in the 12-team Intermediate Division, the Sault girls came out storming and defeated Mississauga 6-0 behind the shut-out goaltending of Tasha McClelland.
Erica Aceti had two goals again with singles going to Hanna Welton, Ashley Lillie, Robin Koskela and Ashley Dellaire.
In the semi-finals, it was a re-match with the host Hamilton girls and this time the Sault team would prove to be too much for the Hamilton girls.
Best Western jumped out to an early 2-0 first period lead and cruised to an easy 4 - 0 victory. McClelland had the shut-out while Aceti, Welton, Koskela and Chelsie Pine did the goal scoring.
In the final, the Best Western defence was the difference allowing the team from Norfolk only two shots on net the entire game, in their 2 - 0 victory.
McClelland had the shut-out again with Aceti and Welton handling the scoring. Game MVP was Bridgit Hindermeier.
Other Best Western team members are Stephanie Amadio, Jessica Elliott, Sarah Rosa, Tiffany Stocco and Sonia Florio. The coaching staff includes Dave Amadio, Dave Lillie, Rick Hindermeier, Leslie Cassidy-Amadio and Midge Hindermeier.
