Several Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club swimmers recorded stellar performances over the weekend in the third Northeastern Ontario Region Developmental swim meet, hosted by the Soo Y Dolphins.
SSMAC had a 36-member contingent, including a group of first-time competitors, entered in the six-team event at the John Rhodes Centre. More than 150 athletes entered the competition.
Three SSMAC members had perfect weekends. Jeff Byrne, Rebecca Day and Kieran O'Neill won all six races they entered.
Brother acts also contributed to the strong team effort. Chris and Ryan Biocchi and Thomas and Adam D'Ovidio all had multiple first-place finishes as did Alex Bonne, Samantha Filek, Chelsea Griswold, Joshua Lawrence, Miranda MacRae, Elyse McCarthy, Patrick McGuire, and Sarah Turgeon.
Other swimmers to win races were Patrick Bonne, Jordan Boucher, Jen Dailey, Julia DeFelice, Adam Filek, Maggie Kirkwood, Cary Matthews, Suzie McGuire, and Peter Olinger.
SSMAC relay teams recorded 21 first-place finishes, four seconds and one third in relay action.
"Our results were extremely pleasing with some new names coming to the forefront," said SSMAC head coach Rob Moreside. "We're delighted to have new members joining the team in a year where we have a number of graduating swimmers."
