With the team in a race for the Ontario Hockey League west division crown and the coveted second seed in the western conference playoffs, the Greyhounds pulled out another timely victory with a 2-1 decision over the Sting.

With the Plymouth Whalers battling the Sudbury Wolves to a 1-1 tie on Friday, the Greyhounds increased their division lead to six points over the Whalers, who hold a game in hand, and nine points over the Windsor Spitfires, who have played one more game.

The Greyhounds have built their lead with a run of eight wins, a loss and a tie in their last 10 games.

In Sarnia, the Sting built a 1-0 lead on a goal by Chad Painchaud before Jeff Carter took over and rallied the Greyhounds to the win.

Jakub Cech kicked aside 26 of 27 shots in goal for the win while Mike Iafrate took the loss for Sarnia and faced 36 Greyhound shots.

The Greyhounds will now prepare for an important contest on Sunday night at Memorial Gardens against the Whalers at 7 p.m.
